What Is an Amortization Schedule?
An amortization schedule is a payment-by-payment table showing how a fixed-rate loan is paid off: each row splits the payment into interest and principal, and tracks the falling balance. Early payments are mostly interest; late payments are mostly principal.
The generator produces the full schedule for any loan — every payment with its date, interest, principal and balance — plus the totals. For long terms it shows the first 400 payments and notes the remainder.
How the Split Works
The balance falls by the principal portion each month, so the interest shrinks and the principal grows — that is why the split shifts over the life of the loan.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is amortization?
The process of paying off a loan with fixed payments, where each payment covers the interest due plus part of the principal.
Why is most of my early payment interest?
Interest is charged on the large early balance. As the balance falls, the interest share shrinks and the principal share grows.
How much interest will I pay in total?
The schedule totals it for you — the last row of the summary.
Can I see the balance at any point?
Yes — find the payment number in the table and read the remaining balance column.
How do extra payments change the schedule?
Use the extra payment calculators — they show the interest saved and the shorter payoff time.
